Soy is a very misunderstood food. Many people have concerns about it because they say it contains high amounts of estrogen which could be bad to consume for men and women alike. However, this is a misunderstanding of estrogen. When people are referring to estrogen in soy they are often confusing it with phytoestrogens. However, phytoestrogens are not a hormone and do not play the same role as estrogen does in the human body. One of the biggest anti-soy narratives comes from the Weston Price Foundation which claims that constituents in soy like phytic acid, phytoestrogens, and trypsin inhibitors cause conditions like “man boobs,” stunted growth in children, hypothyroidism, and infertility. This is untrue for the reasons mentioned above.
Soy is not necessary for a healthy diet so if you don’t like it, you don’t have to have it. If, however, if you do like soy or soy products, then there is no reason to not have them. I would recommend that you find soy that is non-GMO as most soy in the US is genetically modified.
