One of the reasons I felt moved to start my business, was looking out on the landscape of the world, and seeing the incredible state of fear that people were living in in regard to their health. Messages come at us from every angle, every single day. "You should be afraid of every breath." "You should be afraid of someone else’s breath." "Be afraid of dying." "Be afraid of living. "
This atmosphere of fear creates a sense of confusion and chaos…this sense that you cannot relax and enjoy life because of the imminence of danger. One of the definitions of fear is to revere or be in awe of. One of the things that fear requires is an unrelenting focus or reverence. You may have felt that feeling before when hearing news that brought fear or a health diagnosis that wasn’t great. It becomes the one thing that you can’t stop thinking about. In a sense, there is an unspoken reverence for the bad news. If we allow ourselves to focus on that, we become enslaved to fear, and we follow the instructions that always come along with it. Stop. Hide. Back away. Run. We become a slave to what we obey.
The Greek word for obedience means to come under the influence of hearing. I love this definition because it gives such a great picture of what we are doing when we listen to something and put our awe or attention on it. The problem with fear is that the actions that it initiates actually puts us in danger. In the martial art, Tae Kwon Do, students learn about the importance of their stance. Your first reaction when you are attacked is to cower away and get small. But, that actually puts you in more danger. The only way you will be able to protect yourself and fight, is if you stand strong, put your hands up, and get big. Then you can deflect the blows that are coming your way, and be in a position to move and get on the offense.
Fear makes you feel like you’re safe while leaving you vulnerable.
In the same way, when you get faced with a person or situation that causes you fear, check your stance! Get big, put your hands up, and get ready to fight! Don’t cower, don’t back down, don’t be intimidated. Remember your training.
That’s why our tagline here is, Know More – Fear Less. Take the time now to get informed. Learn about how your body works. Learn how the system works. When the time comes for fear to come your way, you will know the truth and the truth will set you free.
